Felt Nazar Eyes

bad, bad photo – but you get the idea

We have a metal tree/branch hanging on a wall in our living space. It’s bare sometimes, but I do enjoy making little hanging decorations for the tree to jazz it up some. The little things I make can be seasonal, but have also evolved to funky other things . . . like nazar eyes (a.k.a. evil eyes).

What’s a nazar?

“eye-shaped amulet believed to protect against the evil eye” and “Many cultures believe that receiving the evil eye will cause misfortune or injury.”

source: wikipedia

Can’t hurt to have some more evil eyes around – am I right? 😉

I made felt, batting, and cardboard “sandwiches” with ribbon loops (for hanging) that were the main body of the evil eyes. Then I used my sewing machine to sew the front and back felt together and securing all layers inside. With additional felt, I cut various sizes and colors of felt which became the technical pupil, iris, and sclera of the eye.

Apologies for the resolution of these photos. : \
